East Hoathly with Halland Parish Council

Site last updated August 2010
Dear Resident
A Commercial Waste Dump is Coming Near You -
11 years after the residents of East Hoathly & Halland successfully saw off East Sussex County Council's attempts to impose a LAND RAISE WASTE DISPOSAL SITE on the land at Halland & Laughton Park Farms, they're back!
The County Council's insatiable appetite to gobble up virgin green belt countryside to satisfy an apparently pressing need to create a vast commercial and household dump knows no limits. Their intention is to create a Waste Dump less than a mile away. The height of this raised site will be about 100 feet. Equivalent to a 10 storey building
As you can see from the attached map, these limits extend into our own Moat Wood and South Street.
And with winds from the south west, the noxious odours will be blown over the village, including the school, the church, and, of course, our own homes.
It is important that East Sussex County Council hear from you directly with your objections.
If there is more than one adult in your household, please write separately.
We haven't got long. ESCC require all objections and comments to be received by
15th January 2010

Mr I Blake

Dear Mr Blake December 2009
I am writing to object to the inclusion of sites within the Lower Weald including East Hoathly with Halland Parish in the proposed areas of search for "Land raise" waste disposal under the East Sussex Waste & Minerals Core Strategy Preferred Strategy consultation..
I understand that our Parish Council is writing to you to object to these indicative proposals, on the grounds that nowhere in these areas of search (ID 1 and ID 23) would be appropriate for this purpose, given the proximity of Ancient Woodland, the character of the landscape, the topography of the site, negative impact on views from and to the south, impact on listed buildings, and the proximity of residential and other property.
The Halland Park Farm site does not support the Sustainable Transport Policy as all transport to and form the site would have to be by road. There are no Rail links. In addition whilst the proposed sites along the A22 are centrally located within the County, the Halland Park Farm site is not in the proximity of the main areas of waste production.
In addition the A22, whilst designated as a major road, is not a dual carriageway and has not been built to sustain regular use by the type and number of heavy vehicles which currently use it. The increase in use by this type of vehicle would be unsustainable and as the road passes through many small villages the increased usage would be of further detriment to the residents living along side it.
I understand that the Halland Park Farm was investigated for a similar scheme some 10 years ago and that the site was eliminated from that enquiry on the basis that it did not meet the criteria for consideration as a landraise site. The site remains unsuitable for consideration on these grounds.
I object to the proposals for the same reasons as the parish council, and I firmly
believe that land raise is the wrong approach to waste disposal, and that much more
effort should be made on waste minimisation, re-

Some of the grounds for objections are as follows:
Proximity to Ancient Woodland
Proximity to growing residential communities of East Hoathly & Halland
Impact on health of the local residents, particularly the elderly and children.
There is a school in the middle of the village.
The land proposed is flat green belt countryside. It contradicts ESCC own Policy Document which seeks sites that are 'appropriate to the surrounding landscape with slope gradients which harmonise with local landforms or other features'.
